BHS Corrugated & Robotics is Hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Near Knoxville, TN

BHS Corrugated is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team in our Knoxville, TN facility! Summary:This position is responsible for ensuring all machinery in modernized, reliable, efficient and standardized with other and BHS locations when possible. The goal of this position is to achieve the highest product quality by developing machinery and processing methods. Manage Capital Expenditure projects and coordinate with contractors and outside vendors. Assist with manufacturing processes and controls to assure safe, quality product and product costing to meet overall customer and company objectives. This is an on-site position in Knoxville, TN and requires less than 10% travel.Responsibilities:
  • Reinforce and support safety culture. Compliance with all safety policy, procedures, and practices. Actively pursue and support safety by leading by example and upholding safety with all other employees; LOTO, Hazwaste, PPE, Engineering Safety controls to hazards, etc.
    • Participate in accident investigation and provide root cause analysis and suggest solutions for safety concerns.
    • Aggressively drive engineering controls to address safety concerns and hazards.
    • Continually work to reduce hazardous waste generation, and exposure to industrial hazards.
  • Process development and controls. Assure manufacturing processes achieve desired quality results, while focusing on conservation of consumables, and maximum life of machined products.
    • Primary responsibilities, Safety and Quality; assure all process standards are safe and provide world class standard quality. Constantly focus on process improvement to ensure product quality is sustained and improved.
    • Stay up to date with cutting edge technologies, and work with Global counterparts to ensure manufacturing practices remain current.
    • Assure all processes have safety hazard assessments completed and published.
    • Assist with product technical drawings, tooling specifications, and processing specifications to the manufacturing floor for each job order.
    • Provide training for Production leadership and technical support personnel as required. Especially when integrating new equipment or procedures.
    • Drive continuous improvements. Take ownership of driving continuous improvements in processing for quality, cost, and delivery. This will link to capital expenditures justifications.
    • Support Lean and 5S standards for manufacturing floor. Identify and assist with Cost Saving measures and processes to reduce operating costs, while maintaining top quality and productivity. Identify energy savings, reduced material use, and time savings in manufacturing processes.
    • Support business systems development. Share best practices and help with technician knowledge and understanding.
  • Machinery Performance and Reliability. Assure highest level of availability is achieved. This includes maintenance process documentation, spare parts identification, and troubleshooting and training support to support business objectives. Provide professional maintenance practices by implementing industry best practices and techniques. Strive to achieve capacity requirements and availability objectives.
    • Establish and develop machinery documentation in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor. Utilize data from the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to create historical archives, create work orders, and monitor performance. Produce periodic reports to present key performance indicators of machine performance and efficiency.
    • Establish and support good maintenance processes. This includes developing preventative and predictive tasks along with tracking machine reliability. Monitor performance indicators of critical processes and provide monthly recaps for trend analysis and improvement opportunities.
    • Develop and implement capital expenditure plans for equipment and facility.
    • Perform and participate in acquiring materials and spare parts to maintain machinery availability or improvement.
    • Design special tooling and equipment as required.
  • Maintain a professional behavior and integrity. Work closely with many departments within organizations as well as routinely work with customers and vendors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Technical Degree: two year required. Five or more years of manufacturing directly related experience highly desired. Must maintain hands-on expertise and proficient in all aspects of industrial machinery and processing.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Engineering principles and specifications. Knowledge of codes and certifications requirements.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Flexible and urgent response schedule. Ability to respond as needed for unplanned downtime situations.
  • Ability to stand for at least 45 minutes at a time and lift 35 pounds at waist level.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as computer, calculator, fax, copier, etc.
  • Ability to use MS Office applications and Computer Design software (AutoCad experience preferred)
  • SAP experience preferred.
